Best Underglow Kit

Neons are back baby! For some reason, the “80s” vibe is coming back and I am loving it. Are you a Hellcat driver, Lamborghini racing, Miata slamming car enthusiast? Well below is a list of the best underglow kits you can get on Amazon! Ever see those super cars that have crazy lights in the wheel wells and engine bay? Well look no further than what’s below.

Hooking up the kits is 90% the same process across all kits. Some kits come with strips of LEDs while others come as spots. But overall the process of putting the strips on is the same, usually with either zip ties or brackets screwed into the vehicle.

Xprite 8 Color 4 Strip Underglow

The Xprite underglow kit is probably the most basic kit. You hang the lengths of LEDs under your vehicle, run the wiring to either the engine bay battery or the included 12v cigarette adapter power supply and bam! You got underglows (though I suggest you should let someone with experience doing this because the results may be SHOCKING!).

It is sound active also, so it will change colors along with the music. What kind of witch craft and wizardry this is I do not know, but I gotta say, pretty funky idea!

Given that its IP rating is IP67, driving over puddles and deserts shouldn’t affect these bad boys what so ever. Unless your wiring is janky, then my friend you got problems and should have heeded my earlier warning!

“Dem” Specs

The remote allows you to set specific colors and along with different modes such as pulses, fades and so on. It also allows you to change the brightness, but we all know that if it ain’t at full blast, you ain’t cool.

A little more specific details about the remote listed below:

  • 8 Preset Static Colors
  • Adjustable Brightness, Easy ON/OFF Button
  • 4 Lighting Effects: 2 jump and 2 fading patterns
  • 4 Sound Active Modes, the LEDs light up according to sound.
  • New Re-Designed Wireless Remote Control; Remote Range: Over 100ft

The remotes effectiveness is about 100ft so you can walk away from your car and dazzle people from a distance! The length of wiring is decent too as listed below:

  • Length from strips to splitter: 75″
  • Length from splitter to end plug: 48″
  • Length of power wire option to plug: 44″
  • Length of cigarette plug option to plug: 18″

The Xprite comes in a presentable box with the following contents:

  • 2 x 4ft strip with 6 feet wiring harness.
  • 2 x 3ft strip with 6 feet wiring harness.
  • 1 x 3ft extension (pre-installed)
  • 1 x remote control
  • 1 x control box/sensor

Pros

  • Comes with a remote control
  • 5050 LED chips
  • Sound activated
  • Rated IP67

Cons

  • The double sided tape loses adhesion over time (zip ties are your friend)
  • Randomly turn on themselves but may just be to how they were wired…

Govee RGB 4 Strip Underglow

Alright, the Govee underglow kit has something else going on here. Unlike the Xprite, the Govee kit is paired with an app which can be downloaded to your Android or iOS device (I would suggest you get an Android head unit, that way you can leave the control of the app to the radio rather than your phone, but that’s just my two cents).

This app allows you to change the colors to one of the 16 million choices apparently available to you. Now, I dunno about you, but I don’t think there is enough time in a humans life cycle to test this theory…

The strips don’t appear to have an actual IP rating but apparently they can last a while. Flame retardant and dust proof.

Comparing to the Xprite strips, there is no included 12V cigarette adapter so this will require the wires to the battery or ignition. Besides that, the process is exactly the same.

“Dem” Specs

The Govee app comes with all sorts of customizing features and modes. The app includes the music mode which makes the lights react to the music you are playing.

Thanks to the RGB 5050 LED chips, this allows a mahoosive amounts of colors to be picked.

The strips lengths are outlined below:

  • Sides: 2 x 35″
  • Front/Rear: 2 x 47″

The Govee underglow kit comes with:

  • Plastic brackets, zip ties and screws
  • Control box connecting the strips
  • 2 x 35″ LED strips
  • 2 x 47″ LED strips

**NOTE** The Govee app can be downloaded using the included QR code.

Pros

  • 16 million color palette
  • Mobile phone app to control the lights
  • Syncs to music
  • Water/Dust proof and flame retardant (but no IP rating)
  • 5050 LED chips

Cons

  • Wires between lights are hit and miss based on your vehicle (mainly SUVs)
  • No timer option to auto turn off
  • No IP rating

Mictuning RGB 8 Pod Underglow

The Mictuning kit is different compared to the other options. These LED lights are more so spots rather than strips and can be installed in places like wheel wells and other irregular places.

The Mictuning use brackets which are attached to the vehicle and then the LED clip into the brackets. Fairly straight forward. There are 8 of these spots included in the pack and you have a choice of places to put them in. They are made of aluminum with thicker glass over the LEDs to stop them from cracking from shooting up rocks and what not.

What makes these LEDs awesome is that you can use them on boats. Not sure how you would go about connecting them but hey if you feel comfortable drilling the brackets into the hull, g’luck!

Like the Govee, the Mictuning comes with an app which controls the colors and the effects. Effects include fading, strobing and brightness along with music sync.

“Dem” Specs

One cool feature of the app is that you can change the colors by shaking the phone! Talk about having UIX in mind by the devs!

The pack includes the following:

  • 8 x 11.3FT LED lights
  • 8x brackets with screws and bolts for each
  • Light controller
  • QR code for downloading the app (Android 4.3+ or iOS 7+)

Pros

  • App controller by Bluetooth (Android 4.3+ or iOS 7+)
  • Configurable lighting effects
  • Music mode
  • Rated IP68
  • Aluminum and tough glass structure
  • YouTube installation video

Cons

  • White is not real white created by RGB LED
  • Certain phones appear to have connection issues with controller box
  • Controller is NOT waterproof (install internally)
